Incorrect item cost on purchase orders

I'm new to MS Dynamics.  I've updated cost and list price info on the item maintenance screen.  New jobs populate cost and list price correctly, but when I enter a purchase order the cost field is populated with older info.  Is there another field I need to update? Thanks.
