Layers in D365 Finance and operations

Hi community,

I know the concept of layers is gonna be less and less important in the future as we try to adapt a more extension based development. But still when I create a model can I always pick the CUS layer? To note that we have implemented D465 Fo in our organisation by an external company and now we are doing in-house development on it so I suppose we have to pick CUS layer.
