Creating a Case for a Lead

Hi all,
We have an requirement to be able to create Cases for leads.
I have created 1:N relationship from Lead to Case, the setup a rule to put a generic customer called (Lead) in the customer field beacause it's a requierd filed.
The problem that i can't sent email to the leads from the case activities.
